In the follow-up to Pinkalicious, Purplicious follows Pinkalicious as she struggles to stay true to herself when other girls begin picking on her for liking the color pink.  Pinkalicious tries to stand her ground and say that pink is not for babies but eventually the mean girls' words get to her and she gives up her favorite color--until she meets a girl who shows her that pink can be a powerful color.

This is a great book that teaches kids the importance of being yourself no matter what anyone else thinks or says.  It takes a minute for Pinkalicious to realize this but in the end she stays true to herself.  This is a great book to have in a classroom because it is something that all students--especially young girls--can identify with.  It is important for students to know that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of them as long as they like themselves.  It's a great lesson on self-esteem and confidence for young girls but it stays on a level that younger kids can identify with, as well.
